Privacy Policy

This policy covers the Longbox iOS app (formerly Caveman Comics) and this website, published by Caveman Tech LLC ("we", "us").

1. No account, no sign-up

Longbox does not require an account. We don't ask for your name, email, or phone number, and we don't build a profile of you.

2. What stays on your device

Your collection, captures, photos, notes, wish list, and settings are stored locally on your device. We don't keep a copy on our servers and can't see what you've cataloged.

3. AI processing (only with your consent)

Longbox asks before it sends anything to AI. Until you tap AGREE on the in-app AI processing screen, no photos or comic details are sent to an AI provider; captures simply wait on your device. Once you agree:

• Comic photos you capture are sent to our backend, which does not store them, and forwarded to Anthropic (Claude) to identify the book, assess its condition, and write grading notes.
• Comic details (title, issue, publisher, year, condition, and your collection's titles for suggestions) and public eBay listing text are sent the same way to estimate value and suggest books.
• Results come back to your device. We don't store your photos or comic details on our servers. The only thing our backend keeps is a usage count (see section 5). Anthropic processes API data under its commercial terms, does not use it to train its models, and keeps it only for a limited period for trust-and-safety purposes before deleting it.

You can withdraw consent at any time in Settings → AI processing. From then on, nothing new is sent to AI; the rest of the app keeps working.

4. Pricing & marketplace lookups

To show prices, covers, and listings, Longbox queries eBay through our backend using non-personal details about a comic (for example, title and issue number). These requests contain no personal information about you.

If you choose to connect your eBay account to create draft listings, sign-in happens on eBay's own page (OAuth). Your eBay tokens are stored on your device and passed through our backend only to complete the request you made; we don't store them.

5. Purchases & subscriptions

Purchases are processed by the Apple App Store. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status; it receives an anonymous app-generated identifier and purchase/receipt data so we can unlock features. We never receive or store your payment card details.

To enforce the free limit and the subscription's fair-use limit, the app sends that same anonymous identifier with each photo identification. Our backend checks your subscription status with RevenueCat and keeps a usage count (photos identified for free, and comics identified this month) stored with RevenueCat against that identifier. The count contains no photos, comic details, or personal information.

6. Crash reports & diagnostics; no tracking

Longbox does not track you across apps or websites and contains no advertising.

We use Sentry for crash reporting. When the app crashes or a key step fails, it sends a report with technical details (device model, iOS and app version, the error) and a short trail of app events, such as the paywall being shown or a purchase or photo identification failing. Sentry is configured not to collect personal information: no name, email, IP-based identity, photos, or collection contents, and it isn't linked to your subscription identifier. If you have turned on Share with App Developers in iOS settings, Apple may also share anonymized crash reports with us under Apple's own privacy policy.

7. Device permissions

Longbox asks for camera and photo library access only so you can capture or pick comic photos. You can revoke them in iOS Settings at any time; capture simply stops working without them.

8. Retention, export & deletion

• Export: back up your collection anytime from Settings → Export (ZIP or JSON).
• Deletion: deleting the app (or its data) permanently removes your collection. Our backend keeps no copy of your photos or collection. To delete the usage count tied to your anonymous identifier, email us (section 12).
• Data handled by the providers below is kept under their own policies.

9. Service providers

• Anthropic: AI identification, grading, and pricing (only after consent)
• eBay: pricing data, covers, optional listing
• RevenueCat: subscription management and the usage count
• Sentry: crash reports and diagnostics
• Apple: app distribution and payments

10. Children

Longbox is for general audiences and doesn't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change how Longbox handles data, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date, and note material changes in the app's release notes.
